The Yates House for Military Veterans, Inc. (TYHMV) is a private non-profit corporation developed to address the lack of housing for military veterans in central New Jersey. This passion for veterans is the vision of Mr. Andre Yates, the son of the late Sgt. Rufus T. Yates, who served as an officer in the United States Army during WWII. This non- profit and its mission are in honor of Mr. Yates’s father. Driving through the Historic Van Wyck section of Plainfield, NJ, Mr. Yates came across a beautiful old mansion which had fallen into disrepair. A nursing home for many years, the home sat vacant waiting for rescue. Having previously renovated and operated many multifamily properties in the area, Mr. Yates seized the opportunity to transform this property. Understanding the plight of the lack of veteran housing in the area, he decided that this was an excellent chance to helping homeless military veterans.
